Fringing Tips Charles Craft Afghans are designed with wide outside borders and threads can be easily removed so that you can select the fringing technique you like best.

Straight Fringe Edge. Stay-Stitch or Zig-Zag stitch by machine along the top of your fringe area, and then pull threads evenly on all four sides to the edge of the stitching.

Single Knot Fringe. It is not necessary to Stay-Stitch prior to removing threads for knot fringe. Pull approximately 4. of threads (56 rows) on all four sides of afghan. Take 10 threads from each corner side and tie in an overhand knot. (Tie all four corners in this manner first to prevent remaining threads from raveling as you work.) Working always in the same direction . left to right or right to left . continue counting 10 threads and knotting until you complete all threads.

Double Knot Fringe. Complete single knot fringe above, and then take five threads from each tassel at the corner. Pull straight out from afghan; twirl around your fingers a couple of times to make an overhand knot. It will not be necessary this time to tie the corners first. Continue separating five threads from adjoining tassels and tie them together in an overhand knot. Again, work the same direction all the way around.
